On Being a Counsellor

Jayne is a highly attuned collaborative therapist who can work across the life span with youth and adults by providing individual and couples/relationships counselling. Through compassionate exploration, Jayne assists clients in gaining clarity on current challenges and assists them with connecting to their inner strengths and competencies to improve current and future functioning while improving their lives and relationships.

Jayne does not feel that counselling is a “one size fits all” endeavour and she adjusts her approach according to the needs of clients and their goals for counselling. Jayne’s knack for bringing compassion, humour, and understanding to the counselling relationship with clients helps ease the sometimes difficult journey of healing.

Counselling Background

Jayne has been a therapist since 2010 in both private practice and a community-based agency. Jayne is a Clinical Traumatologist with extensive training in trauma-based approaches including EMDR, Cognitive Processing, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Counselling, while being a second career for Jayne, is her true calling. She is exceptionally skilled in building relationships and helping navigate pathways to improved personal and interpersonal functioning and wellness.

Key Philosophical Beliefs

  • Counselling is a collaboration between the client and therapist
  • People have a strong desire to feel competent in the important areas of their lives.
  • People want to feel connected to others providing them with a sense of belonging in our world.
  • As individuals, we share a collective sameness, but we are each unique as well and have the expertise within us to create a better life for ourselves.
  • Individuals are often seeking a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives.
  • Counselling can provide a space to learn about our values and how that can help reveal and guide the direction we want to take in our lives.

Jayne as a Person

Jayne has an innate curiosity about people and how they can thrive in the world. She brings a non-judgemental lens to her work and her life, and easily builds relationships and rapport with individuals from many walks of life.

When not engaging in her work, Jayne enjoys a wide variety of activities including being active outdoors, but her true joy in life is spending time with her family and friends.
