Isabel Ruiz, MCP, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor / BC Association of Registered Clinical Counsellors

Meet Isabel

I work with children, teens, and adults who are navigating trauma, anxiety, and the unique experiences that come with being neurodivergent. Many of my clients arrive feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, unsure of how to find calm or confidence in their daily lives. My goal is to create a warm, supportive, and inclusive space where you can explore your story safely and begin to feel seen and understood.

I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Somatic Therapy within a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming approach that honors the whole person. Together, we work to develop emotional regulation, strengthen self-awareness, and build practical tools for everyday life. My hope is that you leave each session feeling more grounded, capable, and connected — not just managing, but truly growing into a stronger sense of self and wellbeing.

My Approach / How I Work

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and deeply individualized. I believe that therapy works best when it meets you where you are — emotionally, mentally, and developmentally. I integrate evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, IFS, CBT, and Somatic Therapy to address root causes of distress while also providing concrete skills that make daily life more manageable.

Because no two people heal the same way, I tailor every session to your unique needs and comfort level. For children and teens, this may include creative play or body-based techniques that help them express emotions safely. For adults, our work often focuses on developing emotional regulation, learning practical tools, releasing past pain, and building resilience for the future. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with the tools and  help you reconnect with your own wisdom and find confidence in your ability to heal.

Background and Training

I have over six years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults through trauma recovery, anxiety, and the challenges of neurodivergence. My work has included counselling neurodivergent children and women navigating experiences of intimate partner violence, childhood and sexual trauma, and individuals adjusting to life transitions such as immigration, chronic stress, or professional burnout.

My background also includes extensive training in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and neuro-affirming care. I believe that every person has the capacity to heal when met with empathy, curiosity, and the right tools. Whether we are processing deep emotional pain or developing everyday coping strategies, I am committed to creating a space where you feel respected, empowered, and supported in your journey toward self-understanding and growth.

Outside the Office

Outside of my counselling work, I find joy and balance in being active and spending time outdoors. I enjoy hiking, swimming in the lakes during summer, and taking long walks with my pets. Fitness and movement are important parts of how I care for myself, and I value moments of connection with nature as reminders of resilience and renewal. I also enjoy continuous learning and self-reflection, which keep me grounded and inspired in my work.

A Few Things About Me

What inspires me most: seeing clients rediscover their strength and realize that healing is possible, even after feeling lost or overwhelmed.

Reaching out for therapy takes courage, and it’s often the first step toward meaningful change. If you’re ready to begin a journey of healing, resilience, and self-discovery, I would be honoured to walk alongside you with compassion and care.
